Ask HN: Is it common now to move QA into Dev roles with AI coding assistants?

I’ve been hearing from several friends that their companies are taking QA team members, giving them AI coding assistants (like Cursor, Copilot, Cloud Code, etc.), and having them start picking up development work.

Has anyone else seen this happening these days? Is it actually common, and how well does it work in practice? Would love to hear from both QA and dev perspectives.
